Although Yanha starts out in the Aether, one of the things they can definitely do is find a route to escape out of the Aether into Aluma. Probably at the Borderlands, since that’s the Designated Place Most MBs Enter Aluma, but it would be funny if they could enter Ssiyin’s being before Ssiassi did and unknowingly prevent that happening
So Ssivyin just has Yanha instead of Ssiassi
That would be a cool alternate story route that’s definitely canon now, but it really makes me wonder
If Ssivyin is so similar to Ssingalain, having a similar appearance, the disaffine hero thing, the (spoilers :p) name Nall/Null upon becoming it, and adopting the Song of Ssingalain as a myth and stuff
Does that mean Ssingalain was a furry had an MB intertwined with them too? It would probably look like a leijonœrn considering their name. But it would be… maybe a Veriaszar? I need to at some point fix MB archetypes like that for the new attitude system.
I’m making the post about Yanha on the same day as the Nassak post cause it made me think
Agency as it applies to Stablehand (as one of the four fundamental attunes) is defined as coherence as an entity with personality and substance plus ability to perceive, think, and act. The opposite of a being which is an agent is a theme.
I typically sum it up as, “are you a person or are you an abstract concept?”.
That’s the main definition of agency. However another element of agency is having a timeline.
I realised, probably Nassak can just walk through the Depths if he’s careful
Before now I’d always imagined there just being this sliding glass door at the back of the Saucer Nexus with a warning sign that had a stylised abyssal and “DANGER” or something, and if anybody stepped out into the Depths beyond that door the abyssals would just immediately eat them (Dark Teapot or an Insulator or somebody would probably just suddenly show up and block you from going out the door as soon as you opened it)
But Nassak has like Portent-sense, so he could detect abyssals before they snuck up on him,
Yeah probably, Yanha is the Esteem character if anyone.
I’d blocked on the fact that I gave it Fantasy-coloured markings because of its whole impossible-dream idea but honestly, it’s the one with this lofty Italian-opera-sounding song about existence and mortality, and also I see it transforming into a number of different shapes in a sort of “elementalist” way (elementalism = philosophy related to Esteem, of using elements like fire and water and electricity and desert and music and constellations and pretty much any suitably simple and distinctive theme you can think of).
I’d been confused about what Thematic-Esteem would be like in the new redone attribute/attitude system of Undirected/Directed vs. Agentic/Thematic I’d been working on, and I guess Yanha is it.
Carp and Observers and owlbats and dark ones,
Cloudgriffs and turtles and reindeer and blazons…
But do you recall…
The most striking voidbeast of all…
YANHA THE SNOW-WHITE SHIELDBEAST
HAD A SNAZZY BLUE-WHITE TAIL
AND A BIG HARDENED KEELCREST
WHICH COULD GUARD YOU WITHOUT FAIL
ALL OF THE OTHER VOIDBEASTS
NEVER EVER QUESTIONED “WHY”
THEY PROB’LY WOULD HAVE LAUGHED IF
THEY EVEN SAW YANHA TRY
But one voidblack everyday
The Boss of Affect came to say
“My oh my how light are they
To vie that bright is quite okay”
(And then he flew off on his way)
BASICALLY NOTHING’S DIFFERENT
NO ONE NOTICED IN THE LEAST
“WHY ARE THERE STILL NO ANSWERS”
WONDERED THE SNOW-WHITE SHIELDBEAST
A handful of my favourite recent DOD drawings I did involving my characters. I’ve noticed I’m steadily getting VASTLY better at drawing on a touchscreen.
Recently I’ve been thinking about the fact that no matter how hard I try to call Yanha “it” and “they”, I keep accidentally thinking of them as “he” for some reason. On one hand, it felt wrong because nothing about them is really all that “male”, but on the other hand, I just couldn’t stop myself, and I thought that was really weird. I wondered if it was just the fact that as a human, I was just too used to everything being forced into the categories of “male” and “female” or what.
Then recently, when I was kind of messing around trying to think of new MB ideas,
I actually started to paint a colour scheme on Yanha!
The lighting in these photos is not the best (maybe I’m thinking of exposure? I don’t know, I usually just tap the shutter button :p), so the colours look a bit lighter and more faded than they do in real life.
I almost forgot about this, but here’s the clay Yanha painted all white.
Ok, now that our patchwork roleplay has fallen apart (see this post), I think everybody deserves an explanation of what these two forms of Yanha actually were.
The “holey” one at top was Nothing!Yanha, or Nullified!Yanha to be more precise (Nullified means Lost-Nothing; there are going to be adjectives like that for every attribute-attitude combination, but as I’m still figuring out what to call some of them I haven’t posted them yet). Due to… well, an accident (you know what happened if you were in the RP,
