Character: Hughes

If Jinfeng is sorta like the adopted kid to Ariana’s mom’s band member’s girlfriend does that make them almost stepsisters

…That’s not the right word at all, but it’s close enough Ariana might think it was with her whole words thing :p

Makes me think that maybe Ariana might discover or invent (probably like with the story of T.S. Bern, misremember and embellish) a story about the “Flaming Stepsister” that is supposed to vaguely hint at Jinfeng. That sounds kinda like a very weird corruption of Cinderella

Recently I decided that Sleipnir and Hughes would probably be demoted from main characters to Antecedents,

So like, there’s absolutely going to be a crossover ending between Kris and Sleipnir/Hughes

But. It was supposed to be from the beginning—and I forgot—that Kris can either opt to defend or bring in Sleipnir and Hughes

If she brings them in, well, that’s the easier ending. Sleipnir would probably agree to it, because it’s his thing that he ultimately wants to go “clean”… Hughes on the other hand would probably fly away believing that he’d done nothing wrong in his life, just because he never had any intent to do evil.

Salvare’s secret

I was thinking about whether it made sense for Sanctuary City to be in Salvare or not, and actually I think it might make a lot of sense

Because think about it

We have this whole debate (or “debate” considering its civility) going on right now about refugees who are coincidentally from the one actual place where terrorists might be disguising themselves as refugees and America wouldn’t be massively overreacting to the risk of terrorism

If the Faith attribute is about accepting basically anybody, but also has “superpower” as one facet of it, it seems all too likely that this weird “superpower theatre”

The War, explained??

I may finally have an explanation for “The War”. maybe.

So Graznar is a Soulless, which is the opposite of a Soulful (recently I realised that’s not quite true and I explain that further down this post, but that’s not important right now). He has his HQ in Corazón, formerly the Heartland—home of the Soulful.

Now, I realised, Corazón is a weird name for that place to have.

Thing is, it’s kinda weird it would be named in Spanish, cause I don’t know of anywhere in Aluma that speaks Spanish. Grævonia speaks basically-English.

OCtober: Hughes

What’s established about Hughes:

He vaguely remembers the Heartland. He likes the blues, and likes to sing old songs but also to make up his own on the spot involving really random lyrics. He has a laid-back attitude, kind of accepting life for what it is. Sometimes he’ll just kinda transform into his crow form. Other times he’ll just kinda be his human form and be there giving this vibe of ‘what, you’re supposed to be a crow’. He kinda takes advantage of the fact people often don’t notice him to do ridiculous things while nobody is looking.

OCtober: Sleipnir

What’s been established about Sleipnir:

He and Hughes were originally members of the Kolonok expedition, who all got voidified and basically killed, but cause they merged with the void these two, at least, came back as voidfolk later*. Sleip has a bunch of different forms, all assumable via various cards that randomly appeared in his wallet when he was reborn. From Sleip’s point of view, he just woke up one day at 20~30something without a past or an identity.

Sleip and Hughes currently live in Sanctuary City, Salvare, a slightly suspicious city that doesn’t ask questions and as long as it doesn’t openly catch you doing anything (it wants to keep its streets safe for all who stay carefully out of trouble),

Fuckfuckfuck oh my god

Ok. I was just thinking, so, Sleipnir and Hughes have Nordic-sounding names that go together

Hughes came first, I was kinda thinking hmm for crow dude what’s a good na—the name Hughes reminds me of Huginn—ame… ok
Then Sleipnir came next when I was like you know Sleipnir is a really cool name and I guess it sort of goes with Huginn

Huginn is Thought. There was another crow, Memory. Never did I stop when naming these characters, or at any time until now really, to think of where “Memory” went. And now it just occurred to me

There isn’t a Memory because they lost their memory

Whoawhoawhoa hold the phone

I just realised while writing the section about Origins in that post that that’s what Sibh Kraeh is—often people turn into aethereals but Hughes can end up turning himself into a fucking Origin.

That’s like not something I ever would have thought of using the words for it but I’d already thought of it by accident

Becoming an Origin is probably super rare

OC asks: 6, 30, 31, 38

6.Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?

This has actually happened a few times and been something I think about!

  • Jinfèng looks like Kyrielle, Jinhuáng’s human form, but they’re not related. It occurs to me just now it may be that the bird chose her because she saw herself in Jinfèng, but that’s not set in stone.
  • Glass Guardian kinda resembles Ssiv, but is not necessarily related even though they have kind of an “ancestor”
