Character: Da Jinhuang

Rotator Phoenix is probably a Chosen honestly

The “Chosen” archetype that I had floating around in my head for so long is probably literally just, a Mascot creature chooses you. You’re a Chosen now, bye

I was just thinking about Jinhuang’s story, how she chooses Jinfeng and makes her a Chosen, but how before that she chose Rotator to change the world by bringing in the age of technotrance

If Jinfeng and the Techs meet up I was at first imagining this thing where Jinhuang has to awkwardly reveal she is Kyrielle but also a bird, but it seems like there’s so much more potential than that for Jinfeng and Rotator to realise that they’re both part of this big, weird thing centred around The Hfenix and changing the world and like, what that means

Ok so, the revised series of events for the TTs after the 6kh story is out is this.

(spoilersish kinda for the story, “The Notice”; you may want to read it first)

So I was just thinking about Lance and Jinfeng and how they actually have a pretty neat duality
I was kind of aware of it back in the DCS days, realising that while Lance was a Knight of Blood (ow the edge) Jinfeng was a good ally as a Maid of Hope

But actually thinking about Stablehand and the gamebook format has made me realise some more things about them. Lance and his mother Stars Reims are highly associated with death and moody polar imagery. But Jinfeng and Jinhuang* are highly associated with life and revival.

The truth about Xzhyrxiel and Zxelhziar?

I’ve been thinking about why Xzhyrxiel and Zxelhziar are reversed and have the opposite markings on their bodies and the opposite iconography to what their attune is

As I was typing that last post it finally occurred to me that maybe the reason Rotator and the Techs are younger than they’re supposed to be (they’re like 25 when The War was at least 50 years ago and Rotator was around 17-20 during The War) is just because something caused them to absorb a ton of sustanszia. I don’t know what though, exactly.

A silly possibility that occurred to me is Rotator just nuzzled up against his goddamn phoenix girlfriend often enough that with her huge amount of sustanszia some just kinda literally rubbed off on him :p
Kinda funny to imagine him just kinda revealing that to the others one day while also randomly projecting fiery wings out of his back for the first time ever cause if there’s anything that G.E.M.

OCtober: Ariana

I already had a fairly extensive post on Ariana recently, where I decided her dad was part of the CFF, a successor to Tiess Bernh’s group. Ari-Enai, a great-aunt to Magna, served under Tiess Bernh, and Ariana is an echo of her because great Fantasy people who had a sufficient focus on some kind of storytelling in life have the ability to be reborn as Originators*.

Ariana’s characters currently include:

  • Barry
  • Knight Cat (Jude)
  • Wings-07
  • Private Jo, planning a military satire movie to raise money for the armed forces
  • Evil King –

Follow-up

Actually I’ve got it, I totally know why Vergozsya “came back”

Jinhuang didn’t destroy her in the first place. Jinhuang was nice to her and let her go

It was like, after catching her the first time, she’d actually been keeping Vergo contained and almost behaving pretty well but one day Vergo somehow persuaded Jinhuang to let her go and Jinhuang was like ok if that’s what you really want I’ll let you go and, well

This, of course, turned out to be a terrible decision.

Vergo got let go kinda because the main timeline is the timeline where Jinhuang does the most good for the world and… in this case that turns out to be just a teeny bit too much good. The Compulsion timeline is where Vergozsya wins and takes over the world with Portensilisks

Mitrokh and the Forsaken Places

Ok so it’d been the case for a while I was thinking the “old” place(s) of Fantasy and Faith (before the “neo” ones, Salvare and Techanopia) were situated somewhere around Vvaghras, and Ariana was born and raised in one of them at some point. I also sorta knew I wanted to have this ethnic group called the Saout, whose name are kind of a play on “Nords” (like North/South), but didn’t quiiiite know where they came from. The FantaFaith place(s) in south Mitrokh seemed like a good candidate, but I still didn’t know where that was.

Ohhhh

I didn’t have a Synthesis Mascot species ever, I just never made one yet
And I just realised
If you take apart “chimaera” it turns into Xima-Era

Era could maybe be the Incongruity half of the mascot while “Xima” could be the Synthesis half; instead of a separate monster and mascot there’s just one with two halves

The “chimaera” could be a common creature that takes traits from Xima-Era the same way flarefowl are a common echo of the Hfenix and hexarts and monoceros are nonmagic flaredrakeicorns. It could be, like,

Ssiv could like go play a “song of stability” for Vergozsya and turn her into not really a mascot any more, leaving Nassak when he’s supposed to find her to just go “where is the monster of compulsion. where is my mother” because she went elsewhere

Y’know initially I thought of the Mascots as just being there, something that was necessary for the universe to be built but aren’t relevant any more

But now I think the image of if you destroy them their attribute is actually deleted from reality would be so weird and interesting. It kinda explains the whole thing of ‘Jinhuáng not being a mascot and being a human fucks with timelines because she becomes disconnected from the Aether’ better too.

If you delete Compulsion does that delete Faith, because Faith is kinda the ability to delete Compulsion…

*Faith has been fucking deleted, GOODBYE*
*Kris has a sequence of Faith wings in the background shifting into the totality symbol and is like wwwwhat just happened*
