In Grævonia a common term for humans is “folk”. People commonly talk about the people of Grævonia as “the folk”, and use “folk” as a gender neutral term to replace “men”, “Man”, “ladies/gentlemen”, etc.
(Because Grævonia is loosely inspired by Anglo-Saxon type cultures rather than today’s cultures, I want to avoid terms that sound specific to 2010s America, like “-person” or “person” to replace “man”. But at the same time a very strong bullet in my mental ‘stablehand manual of style’ has always been ‘keep everything gender-neutral’. So, to compromise,
I just figured out why Aluma has these impossible-sounding mythical creatures that in reality all happen to coalesce in the flaredrakeicorn and the kamaileopard
Eight different Antecedents each saw one of Arkturuse’s two Patron-Accessories and each one had a different impression of it. For instance Vistula the Dawn looked at Xera Flaredrakeicorn and saw them as a bright white griffin-like creature with a bluegreen shimmer, the “umao”, some Antecedent in Grævonia looked at them and went ‘oh it’s a bright kinda fiery thing this obviously must be the Phoenix’
With Zyra Kamaileopard there are these extinct creatures right and so the Antecedents look at it and they think they see the extinct creatures, kind of an amusing inversion of a cryptid story where people find the ‘bigfoot’ in something way more amazing that nobody realises exists because people were too busy talking about cryptids
That makes me think, it’s kinda possible other Aetherbosses’ Accessories had some role in Aluma too. I can’t immediately think of what Rosetta and Clearfill would be doing, but Dark Teapot is already known to have done stuff in Aluma under a male persona called Sigmund Wren. It’s possible The Air and Spiral may have followed him during that time.
So for a long time I had this idea of the “flaredrakeicorn” and the idea Mega-Mierundaro/Arkturuse would have two Accessories that each represented Xai and Zed but I never really had them designed. It is now time to fix that.
Arkturuse’s Accessories are made of these mythical animals:
flaredrakeicorn: Es – AEX (flardraco) / U – TEZ (phoenix) / W – ATX (unicorn) / V – ATZ (griffin thing)
kamaileopard: Ft – AEZ (leijon) / Fn – TEX (cœlailurus) / M – TTZ (kamaileo) / S –
The person who unified Aeterna is named Nall Ssingalain.
Their ‘family name’ means “none”; it’s supposed to be cognate with “null”. (I imagine it was already a regular word too and when being poetic Aeterna might well write “all or nall”. :p) It was a very untraditional choice up to their time that they chose to reflect their ideology of non-affinity with any faction or clan, though probably recurs in some small frequency in the modern era as people who identify with them do the same.
I finally went back and used my newest decision on attunes to figure out the bosses. By figuring out what attunes they were I could match them up to attributes, since each attribute has associated attunes.
If Arkturuse is the boss of Affect and largely that means emotion, and Arca is the zetaligned “dark” version of that, she is probably about, like, mood and atmosphere
Probably Lance has special significance to Arca
What if the bosses were literally just sometimes their male form and sometimes their female form, at basically random (which is the way I started setting up the Markov bot to be without thinking). I dunno how the members would not NOTICE that though? and not be like oh Arkturuse is going to be Arca now everyone can relax,
New term: the cloaks Kokorononai members are equipped with (didn’t really explicitly discuss them before ever but they were a thing and I mentioned them like once in a roleplay) are called heart veils, and Kokorononai (probably) invented them. Heart veils are transparent, nearly invisible cloaks that, when put on, start to assume the appearance of something else on the outside, usually some kind of canid (wolf, dog, jackal, coyote) for Kokorononai members. When fully on they replace the wearer’s external form with their own—though the outside of your body behaves like the new form and it feels natural you keep your own physiology internally so it’s like an unimaginably realistic costume kinda.
Carp and Observers and owlbats and dark ones,
Cloudgriffs and turtles and reindeer and blazons…
But do you recall…
The most striking voidbeast of all…
YANHA THE SNOW-WHITE SHIELDBEAST
HAD A SNAZZY BLUE-WHITE TAIL
AND A BIG HARDENED KEELCREST
WHICH COULD GUARD YOU WITHOUT FAIL
ALL OF THE OTHER VOIDBEASTS
NEVER EVER QUESTIONED “WHY”
THEY PROB’LY WOULD HAVE LAUGHED IF
THEY EVEN SAW YANHA TRY
But one voidblack everyday
The Boss of Affect came to say
“My oh my how light are they
To vie that bright is quite okay”
(And then he flew off on his way)
BASICALLY NOTHING’S DIFFERENT
NO ONE NOTICED IN THE LEAST
“WHY ARE THERE STILL NO ANSWERS”
WONDERED THE SNOW-WHITE SHIELDBEAST
Dammit, Papa Stork is actually a thing now
I needed a blazon animal for Incongruity and I realised the bird-people he supposedly brought were about perfect for that, which led to him actually becoming a thing though the bird-people aren’t, they’re a misinterpretation of Mega-Mierundaro’s members and so Papa Stork lives at MM with them
(He’s an MB of course so he’s not actually a he in any meaningful sense, but Arkturuse or somebody decided he looked like some kind of patriarch and started whimsically calling him “Papa Stork” and it stuck. He could care less what others refer to him as.)
It’s kind of fun to use original characters as wastebins for insane “headcanons” you get that make no sense for the character you thought of them for
Case in point: because one of my lyrics for the Zach song was “I’ve got a cat and just a smidgen of tenacity” I randomly started to imagine him using some weird martial art involving flinging cats through the air as weapons
I…. do not think that makes any sense so I think I will make it a new archetype in Stablehand instead.
