So the other day I was having a stupid little thought about people having Reflector MBs that could act as mini-Hfenixata. I haven’t talked about Reflectors much cause they haven’t been developed very much but basically they reside in a host and then the host and Reflector sort of “reflect” each other, that is, bring out hidden qualities of each other through their intertwinedness. They’re basically a carryover from my dropped (and in-reboot) Tyrian project, where they were inspired by the shadows in Blue Dragon Ral Grad* (which in turn first appeared in Blue Dragon).
If Jinfeng is sorta like the adopted kid to Ariana’s mom’s band member’s girlfriend does that make them almost stepsisters
…That’s not the right word at all, but it’s close enough Ariana might think it was with her whole words thing :p
Makes me think that maybe Ariana might discover or invent (probably like with the story of T.S. Bern, misremember and embellish) a story about the “Flaming Stepsister” that is supposed to vaguely hint at Jinfeng. That sounds kinda like a very weird corruption of Cinderella
Recently I decided that Sleipnir and Hughes would probably be demoted from main characters to Antecedents,
So as I’ve been programming Seven Heirs (Undertale tribute using the in-progress Stablehand engine) I’ve been learning some things about Stablehand/Sixteen Hues.
For 7h, I wanted to build a “Stablehand-style RPG-ish encounter system”, because RPG encounters are a big part of Undertale but I never thought about how one would work in Stablehand and thought that would be an interesting experiment. For reference, this is called the “Confrontation” system.
And I thought about how I was building it (or planning to), and realised, this pretty much illustrates exactly what attributes were/are supposed to be.
My new image of it is that maybe there’s literally like a little world in there. A sort of small world, kinda fuzzy beyond its boundaries, but it’s there.
There’s like this meeting room in there where she and her characters can meet to discuss strategies, and these rooms each of the characters can pass time/sleep in if she needs to put them away for safekeeping. It’s kind of like an oddly thorough explanation of the RPG trope where party people clown-car into the main character to make the screen less cluttered :p
All the areas in Ariana’s flowspace world are mainly given details by her characters;
This day was supposed to be for Knight Cat but I’ll include Ariana’s other OCs in it a bit too :p
Generally, Ariana’s OCs have a weird trend that they all kind of vaguely look like misinterpretations of popular media, usually geared toward kids but not always. This wasn’t something I was really trying to do, but it’s just too strong an accidental theme to ignore at this point so I’ve decided to flow with it.
Knight Cat, for one, is kind of like a misinterpretation of Warrior cats what with his kin group of cat knights that live in a mountain pass.
He vaguely remembers the Heartland. He likes the blues, and likes to sing old songs but also to make up his own on the spot involving really random lyrics. He has a laid-back attitude, kind of accepting life for what it is. Sometimes he’ll just kinda transform into his crow form. Other times he’ll just kinda be his human form and be there giving this vibe of ‘what, you’re supposed to be a crow’. He kinda takes advantage of the fact people often don’t notice him to do ridiculous things while nobody is looking.
I already had a fairly extensive post on Ariana recently, where I decided her dad was part of the CFF, a successor to Tiess Bernh’s group. Ari-Enai, a great-aunt to Magna, served under Tiess Bernh, and Ariana is an echo of her because great Fantasy people who had a sufficient focus on some kind of storytelling in life have the ability to be reborn as Originators*.
Ariana’s characters currently include:
Knight Cat (Jude)
Private Jo, planning a military satire movie to raise money for the armed forces
So I was working on fleshing out the idea I’d had of using technique trees today, and got a pretty ridiculous but great idea
All Wings-07′s cirque techniques are literally just job skills pulled from “things you should put on your resume” lists
And like, depending on which skills he upgrades it determines what job he can get :p
I like the idea his flowspace (basically a combo character screen/objectives screen that’s styled differently for each character, if you haven’t been following) is quite literally his resumé and as he upgrades techniques it changes, with the next techniques he’s going to get in there with question marks
Until Stablehand, I never realised how contradictory “things you should put on your resume” lists could be…
Ok so it’d been the case for a while I was thinking the “old” place(s) of Fantasy and Faith (before the “neo” ones, Salvare and Techanopia) were situated somewhere around Vvaghras, and Ariana was born and raised in one of them at some point. I also sorta knew I wanted to have this ethnic group called the Saout, whose name are kind of a play on “Nords” (like North/South), but didn’t quiiiite know where they came from. The FantaFaith place(s) in south Mitrokh seemed like a good candidate, but I still didn’t know where that was.
