Species: observers

Nonbinary in the "real way"

I wrote eighteen thousand words about my gender. Which, by the way, is literally nearly as much as my Stablehand explanation post (aka WSP) and “autobiography” post combined, which were ~10k words each. (It took me two weeks.)

It’s a lot, but I needed to get it out.

So, a while back, it was sorta the SU AU that got me thinking about if Stablehand has anime fusion techniques to go with its anime battle techniques, and I realised, yeah, actually, Stablehand has had fusions for a long time. These guys.

Grand Observers, aka granszata—a “fusion” of two paired Observers.

From that I’d decided that since the whole reason I’d done that was they were Unity creatures and their whole spiel is that they form pair bonds*, in general, anybody could probably do a “fusion” as a high-level Unity technique,

And finally for the moment, my chart that was supposed to have all the Agent Archetype MBs… before I decided to redo attitudes (the columns) in a much better simpler quadrant grid rendering this chart outdated.

I’ll be making my next chart digitally, because redrawing things when you can’t just move them (like I did once or twice here) is a pain.

A progression of attempts to design the vvagra, an Esteemed creature related to thylacines (first two pics and top of next); another Ostentator revamp; and stuff from a Steven Universe/Stablehand crossover AU.

When I was trying to design Ostentator!Pearl (you can tell which one that is by the head gem :p I was also trying to figure out a pose for Insulator!Garnet above that) I realised that damn, the default Ostentator should look more like that. It would portray the Esteem attribute a lot better that way. So I started revamping it to have more of this strangely-holy-looking look with features inscribed on it in “aureate-shine-flame”. As I did once before I drew all the other “main” MBs again to ensure it would be different from them.

Pearl was supposed to have a coat too of course but I never got around to designing it in this pic.

Above: pictures I couldn’t add to the archive because the server was apparently full, lol

Top is Ssiassi, Ssivyin’s burden. Bottom is a by now rather old hexart drawing done at the same time as the leijonœrn I posted that one time with the other failed leijonœrns but am too lazy to link.

Sorry everything’s such a mess right now, it’s gonna be much more in order when my Sandstorm goes up and the new blog and archive go out.

Stablehand scrap update: 4/20~10/31

The interval between these only gets longer, but at least this time it’s mostly because I’ve actually been posting things as proper posts instead of in here. Still, there are a few things.

First, the Observers’ colour is apparently called “atoll” as I found out on this neat website. Neat bit of trivia. I remember back when all MBs were going to be variations of that colour, a time this post still hasn’t gotten out of.

My mind couldn’t think of the word “papaya”,

Ok so, somebody asked me if MBs can get fat and/or have their appearance semi-involuntarily change over long time periods and I couldn’t give you the whole answer for reasons but I thought I’d post the part of it I could because that was an awesome question.

Hahahaha that is a hilarious question that I never thought about. :p

Um…. I’d say to the latter, yes! They can very much be involuntarily shaped by their environment.

If an Insulator was in a snowy place that threatened to freeze it whenever it liquefied and as such was miserable there it might end up gradually adopting a more snow-like pattern and gaining a more rigid body, and switching to transforming into slush or snow rather than fluid. Alternatively maybe it might gain fur and switch to liquefying into a steaming fluid, depending on the individual.

Can they get fat though. Hmmmmm. That’s a tougher question.

Some MBs, particularly Observers, definitely like to eat stuff. Vontada-Observers like to eat a LOT of stuff, but I don’t see them as getting fat. I do kinda see them as getting gradually more powerful though.

MBs with wider body types are possible and MBs can end up changing to a form with a different style when their qualities and/or perception of things change so yeah, I guess one could get fatter.

So basically, they CAN get fatter but not any way a normal creature would.

Edit (25/06): now I’ve stopped withholding “spoilers”, I can give you the full answer. Contains worldspoilers of course!

remember how in the early days of Homesuck whenever tried to do a bullshit plot line or self insert we just shot it down

that was good

Yeaahhhhhh I feel like I totally would have been the one to get them back that way except then I had to decide being an alien werewolf thing on stupid irrelevant segues was so fun. Bluh :p

At the very least it made me create the Observers which are a really, really big thing in RFS now (nope, it’s not a coincidence at all they’re named Observers, if you know what I mean :p), and half a dozen personas and various things similar to them, like wow I practically made this whole aesthetic based on blankfaces, mammal and/or dinosaur characteristics, viridian, weird glove things, fluff, and stripes

Stablehand: Observer update

Here we are! I wanted to make a more quality drawing of The Ingenious, and I did, but at the same time I also drew more updated versions of the two more common Observer forms. Those forms are now called the Yunia (Unity) and Vontada (Will) forms, and Ingenious’ form is now called the Sinteszia (Synthesis) form; as it’s a sort of combination of the two I felt like I needed to have a good reference of the other two to compare it to.

It’s good I got to drawing the main two forms again, though, because their design has changed a bunch by now. In particular the Vontada form looks a lot more like a theropod dinosaur by accident; its arms could probably be a bit more substantial actually because I liked the ape-ish look on the colour palette test one. Another, actually intentional design element is that now, all forms’ hands have exactly one clawed thumb but the rest of the digits unified into a single unit by default, which separates out into separate fingers (up to 7 counting the thumb) as needed. (That’s my sneaky way of obeying the “MBs have either digits or claws reflecting their attribute number” rule while still giving them normal hands.)

Also this time I actually drew the sensors seriously instead of scribbling them, for the very first time. I’m not totally sure I won’t change them the next time I have to draw these things but at least I have an actual design for the sensors now. :p
