Bug 000015 notes

I have this really weird urge to write a fanfic inspired by the glitchy and bad Sonic games where their entire world is revealed to literally be a series of little glitches that all add up to explain the current state of affairs of the world basically being one giant glitch

And like the characters realise that their world isn’t meant to be and what they thought were cool personas they were affecting (the way you kinda do when you’re a teenager) is just bad two-dimensional writing they let permeate them not knowing that’s what it was

Of course,

Ooh
Yesterday I got a very interesting idea for the Fuchsia White universe

Previously what I had was that literally everything (everything) in the universe was made by hard work in kind of a weird satirical extension of this idea/myth of the American frontier where everyone’s a pioneer and everything was made by the ‘hard work of our forefathers’, and that everything was ‘elementalist’, with this system where there were a potentially infinite number of elements, each as deep as typical overused fantasy elements

Yesterday while trying to think of how Fuchsia White’s universe originally began I randomly imagined that the universe was actually made up of programming code,

You know, I really like the idea of a fantastical world where the world is a big focus, but

Where instead of anybody worshipping any kind of nature god or natural force or source of magic or ANYTHING like that, everything is framed in terms of the hard work and ingenuity of ordinary people

Like, ordinary people created the categories of magic in use today and the concept of magic itself as like an innovative invention and somehow established the world itself as a grand fantastic place for future generations to delight in according to a vision of what would be a cool world to live in with a wide range of possibilities

Kinda like the popular romanticised legend of how America came to be I guess but more generalised

I’d have to figure out what they started from because that’s a little unclear to me but this sure is an idea

It’s interesting to me that without intending to do it I essentially recycled much of the basic idea of my dead HS fan adventure, “Dinostuck: Cretaceous Square” into bug 000015, in that in DCS you had people issuing commands through a text-adventure like input bar in a game that then altered an environment and affected these dinosaur characters and chatting about their experiences with that, and in Bug 000015 there are about 7 admins of a virtual world in development and they can issue commands (admin commands that are in IRC-ish format so it’s a liiiiittle different but still) that alter that environment and affect the AU’d Sonic characters and are chatting about their experiences with that

It’s kinda cool to me because I thought the Cretaceous Square idea would go to waste when I dropped it and I’m pretty sure Bug 000015 is gonna be like, better in every regard other than the fact it doesn’t have DINOSAUAUARS!!!! or Stablehand characters (:p) and the writing is a little sparser/more weirdly organised (though in the big picture I was writing DCS in a pretty damn nonlinear way that really wasn’t very comprehensible without the rest of the story to explain it so it will probably still be a lot better).

Sonic the Hedgehog and then this Fuchsia White idea have DONE things to me

Stablehand got derailed very temporarily (~2 weeks?) because I couldn’t finish the recode of my “serious” site I wanted to do at that moment and needed to take a break, and in its time of derailment I’ve just kinda been rethinking everything

I’m not going to be redoing anything core-Stablehand because I like everything I already have, but the thing is

“Fuchsia White” (and also my attempts at a Sonic AU thing) made me realise I really freaking love anthros and kinda need somewhere,

Your first glimpse of Fuchsia White! This is not her real design stylistically/anatomically, it’s just a doodle I sloppily did in Inkscape to figure out her colours/patterns on because Inkscape is great for making colour splashes whose colour can very quickly be changed. But, it’s something.(In each view I drew her wearing one glove/shoe respectively to show the limb colours. :p)

Miscellaneous shit I’ve decided about Fuchsia White:

  • Everybody has two names like that but neither is a surname and also they are always colours or at least close to colours conceptually
  • The creatures’ colour schemes of course draw from these colours
  • Fuchsia’s weapon thing came from some ancestral figure called “Candora”
  • It will be told entirely in the form of songs, hopefully with some kind of animation, as a sort of original counterpart to TFO
  • Assuming this gets anywhere and I get any of the songs/visualisations done, which I’ll admit is a pretty big assumption, I’m totally going to go back and somehow redo the first Fuchsia animation with Amy instead of Fuchsia but not changing the song any just as an exercise in absurdity because that would be really funny

Ok so yesterday, and I’m not kidding you, I suddenly came up with the perfect way to “fix” Amy and make her actually cool and I just had so many ideas life was perfect I mean I was about ready to put this character from character-I-hate-so-much-I-am-practically-in-hatelove to character-I-use-everywhere-as-a-mascot-slash-favourite-character

But then the realisation kicked in that with the current state of IP I would probably never actually cause this character to become more awesome canonically no matter what I did because even if my stuff was flat amazing out the ceiling there’s like no way any actual teams would pay attention to me (even before getting into the comical scene I imagined of trying to explain to some corporate person why I should be able to release my concept art libre and why that wouldn’t really change anything because IP rights are an onion blah blah yada yada :p),
