I’m thinking about merging the idea I had of a hyper-extended fantasy element system into Fuchsia White
The stuff I already had, where each character already essentially has an elemental power of sorts (Fuchsia’s “femininity” thing, Virid’s glowy light thing/Daedalus’ sun thing), incidentally fits pretty well with it
Fantasy elements like water and fire and air and lightning and ice are so completely and utterly overused
We need new more interesting fantasy elements like cement and silicon and microbe and synergy and slime and radioactivity and electromagnetic waves and thought and spacedust and disorder and myth and science and romanticism and abstract minimalism and mathematics and love and hatred and transformation and force and lassitude and prehistoric and cyberpunk and beneficial mutation and agility and music and blood and armour and hierarchy and spectrum and indistinction and paranormal and paranoid delusion
We need to like just replace standard fantasy elements with a shitton of different aesthetics and keep using them like elements
The ancestor backstories for my “Fuchsia White” thing are suddenly really clicking into place
The ancestor of Virid, the cœthonian (wingless griffin), was going to have made this small sun thing that was supposed to brighten up the world but was just this huge disaster that dried/burned up everything in the area right
Today I randomly imagined him having techno-wings just because hey you want legendary ancestor characters to look cool and grand and then I realised… wings, sun—maybe I should call him Daedalus
And (aside from the fact it should be Icarus but he’s supposed to be a patriarch so w/e) that’s like the perfect name because he totally didn’t consider the sun was going to be such a disaster when what did he expect :p
And then there’s Fuchsia’s ancestor who I called Candora, just because I randomly imagined her being coloured white and that seemed like a good name (candour = whiteness as well as brightness & being candid) but then I realised oh Fuchsia is like feminine/feminist and Pandora was the first woman in that story :o
They’re just accidentally all turning into weird loose Greek mythology references when I didn’t really plan that or try for it?
Sonic the Hedgehog and then this Fuchsia White idea have DONE things to me
Stablehand got derailed very temporarily (~2 weeks?) because I couldn’t finish the recode of my “serious” site I wanted to do at that moment and needed to take a break, and in its time of derailment I’ve just kinda been rethinking everything
I’m not going to be redoing anything core-Stablehand because I like everything I already have, but the thing is
“Fuchsia White” (and also my attempts at a Sonic AU thing) made me realise I really freaking love anthros and kinda need somewhere,
Ohmygosh I discovered the “bad photocopy” brush :p
Your first glimpse of Fuchsia White!
This is not her real design stylistically/anatomically, it’s just a doodle I sloppily did in Inkscape to figure out her colours/patterns on because Inkscape is great for making colour splashes whose colour can very quickly be changed. But, it’s something.
(In each view I drew her wearing one glove/shoe respectively to show the limb colours. :p)
I just realised that by drawing Fuchsia all fuzzy (the way the really dedicated science artists are drawing pterosaurs these days), it might be I’m gonna open up a palaeoart gender can of worms and make people realise that maybe they didn’t like fuzzy pterosaurs because they subconsciously thought they were too feminine-looking
Miscellaneous shit I’ve decided about Fuchsia White:
Everybody has two names like that but neither is a surname and also they are always colours or at least close to colours conceptually
The creatures’ colour schemes of course draw from these colours
Fuchsia’s weapon thing came from some ancestral figure called “Candora”
It will be told entirely in the form of songs, hopefully with some kind of animation, as a sort of original counterpart to TFO
Assuming this gets anywhere and I get any of the songs/visualisations done, which I’ll admit is a pretty big assumption, I’m totally going to go back and somehow redo the first Fuchsia animation with Amy instead of Fuchsia but not changing the song any just as an exercise in absurdity because that would be really funny
Me: Well if it’s useless to think I can make Amy Rose actually awesome I’mma need a new name and species and shit
“: What’s another flower that’s pink…. oh yeah FUCHSIA like the Superpower
“: But Fuchsia isn’t quite a name by itself, I need like a second name like idk Fuchsia White?
“: Haha I kinda like that actually
“: Now I need a new animal like idk what a pterosaur?
“: Fuchsia White the pterosaur
Ok so basically, the idea behind Fuchsia White is kinda like this post I’m sure you’re familiar with:
The idea is Fuchsia stumbled onto one of the most amazing weapons in the universe, but nobody would ever think of using it or touching it because it was too girly
But Fuchsia happens to be the only person in this universe who isn’t mentally 12 so she just picks it up without even considering what it looks like, having no idea what she has on her bright pink winged hands until much later at which point she’s just like ‘really’
Her major “power”, which isn’t really a power at all, is the ability to do things that might be considered feminine or emotional or otherwise awkward with all the practical frankness of an engineer (she can do practical things with the same practical frankness too, though that doesn’t guarantee she’ll be the best one for the job because hey no one’s good at everything), and to evaluate the aesthetics and merits of things completely outside of the context of gender.
Yep this is the hero I imagine. Says a lot about me, doesn’t it?
